What is Shungite

Generally when we want to know what is Shungite and how it came into origin then we can commonly describe Shungite as a black rock that is lustrous, non-crystalline mineraloid containing an amount of more than 98% of carbon and trace amount of fullerenes. The Property of concentration of carbon in Shungite indicates the elevated biological productivity levels that forms due to high levels of nutrients available from interbedded volcanic material.

The structure of Shungite in nature is generally found as metamorphosed or oil source rocks bitumen. Due to the metamorphism character in Sulphite, its structure changes with the flow of heat, pressure, and the introduction of chemically active fluids.

It was first originated from a deposit in the Lake Onega, area of Karelia, at Zazhoginskoye, near Sangha village, from where it got its name shungite. Two other smaller origination of Shungite came from Russia, where the one is formed from Kamchatka in volcanic rocks and the other is formed by the burning of spoil from a coal mine at high temperature in Chelyabinsk. Along with this, some other occurrence has also been found from Austria, India, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Kazakhstan.

Shungite occurs generally from disseminated found within the host rock and as apparently mobilised material. Non-migrated Shungite is found directly stratigraphically above the deposits formed in a shallow water carbonate shelf to non-marine evaporation environment. On the basis of the luster contaminant, shungite is subdivided into bright,semi-bright,semi-dull and dull. The deposits of Shunga contains an estimated carbon reserve that is counted to be more than 250 gigatonnes. It is found to be formed within a sequence of Palaeoproterozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks that are preserved as a topographic layer in concave formation.

There are nine Shungite bearing layers within the Zabezhanskaya Formation, from the middle of the preserved sequence. Out of all these layers the thickest is the sixth layer known as productive horizon because of the concentration of Shungite deposit. The four main originations came to be known from the area- the Maksovo, Zazgogino, the Shungskoe, and the Nigozero deposit. The deposit of Shungskoe is the most researched, studied and is mainly mined out.

From the mid 18th century Shungite has been used for the purpose of medical treatment. Shungite is also used for the purpose of water purification and the antibacterial properties of Shungite have been confirmed by modern testing. As to know really what is Shungite, a professional writer A. Doronina after studying and researching thoroughly about it puts it in her book Shungite, the stone savior that Shungite cures, rescues, purifies, heals, protects, normalizes, restores and even stimulates the growth. Shungite has the power to kill and devour anything that harms people or any other living organisms and for that brings back the concentration and restores all that is good and beneficial for the one, in short, the Scholar who studies Shungite in one voice declares, “It’s a miracle”. Due to such recovery and positive properties, Shungite is known as the “Miracle Stone” and “the stone of life”, alchemy and transformation with a huge list of amazing benefits and is unlike any other stone on the planet.
